Sub Groups

We are extremely grateful for our volunteers generous contribution of time and energy!

If panel members would like to increase their involvement, there are further opportunities available with our sub groups.

We also provide roles for members of the public who are unable to commit to regular scrutiny meetings but would like to support the panel’s mission. We value all of our volunteer’s time and work with you to find a sustainable balance.

Our Sub Groups

Body-Worn Video (BWV) Case Selection

Assess the region’s Stop & Search and Use of Force cases, narrowing down videos for the panel to watch based on specific thematics for that month and highlighting incidents without BWV for investigation.

Data Scrutiny

Assess Devon and Cornwall Police data in relation to the rest of the UK, set percentage targets for the year, highlight missing data, and identify areas for improvement and communities disproportionately affected.

Community Engagement

SCHOOL & COLLEGES:

Develop, contribute and/or lead age-appropriate workshops in local schools and colleges, providing education on Stop & Search and Use of Force, the panel’s role, and creating a safe space to share experiences.

TRAINING:

Free independent training is provided for any interested members of the public or local organisations to gain an understanding of what accountable front-line policing involves.

RIDE-ALONG SCHEME:

Did you know Devon and Cornwall Police welcome members of the public aged 17 years or above to undertake ‘Ride Along’ patrols with officers? This allows members of the public to gain a better understanding of how the police work: the challenges and the risks, the benefits and the rewards.

You may be able to observe some police powers, such as Stop & Search, arrest and searching of premises.

Podcasts

Develop podcasts between senior police officers and members of the community, invite key contacts and organisation representatives to participate, select themes and topics of interest and/or contribute to a discussion.

Press Releases

Sharing your experiences, insights and reasons for joining the panel helps raise awareness in our communities.

We can help you write and share your story with local media outlets and the panel’s monthly newsletters; highlighting the topics important to you and encouraging more members of our diverse region to join this inclusive independent panel.

We are always looking to recruit panel members, youth champions, organisation ambassadors and volunteers who are interested in making positive proactive changes in our region.
